Basil Storage: At Home Tips

Immediatley after getting home, open your basil bag to breath. Basil needs to breath. Choose which method you prefer to preserve basil at home:

Keeping in Bag:

Loosely Wrap: Place the basil loosely inside the bag instead of packing it tightly.

Add Air Flow: Leave the bag open

Absorb Moisture: Place a dry paper towel inside the bag to soak up excess condensation.

Or try the Water Method:

Trim about a half-inch off the bottom of the basil stems. Place the bunch in a mason jar with 1 to 2 inches of clean, cool water.

Store at room temperature in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Avoid refrigerators, as cold temperatures below 10 degrees cause rapid cellular damage and blackening of the leaves.

Maintenance: Change the water every 2 to 3 days to prevent bacterial growth and slime.
